Dallas Sunrise Proposal
Normally I press the snooze button on my alarm 3-5 times before actually rolling out of bed, but this morning was different. I am in no way a morning person, but I forced myself to get up long before the sunrise knowing it would be worth it. I knew Amy from college, and we had been trying to plan this photo session with her boyfriend for weeks. We finally decided on the Sunday before Thanksgiving right at sunrise to get that gorgeous morning light. She arrived at the park wearing a beautiful red dress, ready to take pictures. Alex walked up a few steps behind her wearing a dashing suit & tie and introduced himself.
We began to take photos on the bridge over the lake, and after a little while they changed into the second outfit they brought and we moved into the tall grass fields in front of the sunrise. The entire session, you could see how happy they made each other. Alex & Amy would giggle just by looking at one another and had such a great time being in each other's presence. You could feel the love they had for each other even if you just met them.
We completed our session, and we were just about to warp everything up when Alex said, "Let's take a fun one." He repeated those five little words over and over. Amy looked at him and said "What other one's could we possibly take? We have already been laughing the whole time!"
"Let's just take a fun one," he said one more time.
All of a sudden Alex started to pull a ring out of his pocket and was bending down on one knee, asking Amy to marry him.
Her eyes widened as she realized what was happening and exclaimed, "Are you serious?! Are you SERIOUS?! Babe, are you serious?!"
Alex and I held our breath as we waited quietly for Amy's response. Of course she said YES! We got in a few quick engagement photos before we lost the beautiful sunrise light, and started heading back to our cars.
When the session ended, I said goodbye to Amy & Alex, and they headed to brunch where all the surprises were over.
Or so she thought.
When they entered the restaurant, Amy saw all of her friends sitting and waiting for them to celebrate their engagement! She said hello to a few people, and when she turned around, her parents, who live in Maryland, were standing there ready to embrace their newly engaged daughter. Alex had known he was going to propose for a while, he just wasn't exactly sure when it was going to happen. When they were visiting Amy's parents in Maryland back in September, Alex asked her father for permission to marry his daughter. He invited them to come to Texas for Thanksgiving, knowing he was going to propose the weekend before. He had picked out the perfect ring and was trying to figure out exactly how he was going to propose when Amy mentioned taking pictures together. That was too great of an idea for him to pass up, so he planned everything around our photo session.
Amy & Alex, thank you for letting me witness a once-in-a-lifetime moment and freeze it in time for you to cherish forever. It was one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen. I am so beyond happy for you and can't wait to see all of the amazing moments that lie ahead for you! Here's to your amazing future together as Mr. & Mrs. Black!
